Summer is here and more importantly a post covid life is on the horizon. With that said you may find yourself wanting to go all out because you weren’t able to do anything last year which you def can but also lets do it rationally and without breaking the bank. So with that in mind here are 5 very frugal things you can do that will help you save money when you are out and about enjoying the summer.
1. Take a water bottle– Needless to say if you’re going to be out and about you’re going to get thirsty and instead of buying water, carry your water bottle and fill it as you go.
2. Pack snacks– Here is another tip that I am very happy was instilled in me at a very young age because my parents did this and it was to bring snacks (and water or other drinks) with us anywhere we went and I mean anywhere. To the mall, to the park, school events, etc. I to this day will always pack even one snack with me almost anywhere I go just in case and those just in case moments come up more than one may think. So instead of buying all your meals when you’re out or getting hangry, pack some snack with you or keep them in your car and you’ll save some money in the long run.
3. Skip the drink- Or at least sometimes. One of the most expensive things you can buy when you’re out are drinks (cocktails, beer, wine, etc.) don’t get me wrong I do like my craft beer and unique cocktails that I know I cannot recreate at home but it is rare that we go out to lunch or dinner and have a drink along with our meal. Unless it is something we have already agreed on because it is an experience (ie: a very unique cocktail) I personally rather spend my money on food that pay more with drinks. So here is our trick, before doing out to dinner or lunch (if it’s the weekend) we will have a drink at home prior to our meal or come home and have a drink and there is always the option to have a roady (of course if you’re not driving)
4. Find the free stuff– Every city and neighborhood always has some type of free events and you have to remember that they had a whole lot of their budget that was not used last year because of the pandemic so more free events may be happening this summer than usual. You just have to do some research and I am sure you can find something for free that you’d like to do and would enjoy.
5. Make a summer budget- Here is my biggest takeaway you may have set a budget at the beginning at the year but lets take a look at it again because we all know that this summer is very different from last summer and you might feel like you can validate everything with well I didn’t get to do anything last year. But keep in mind your big financial goals and give yourself more wiggle room this summer if you plan to go to outdoor patios, vacations etc. Because we all deserve to treat ourselves but lets not get too carried away that we then are regretting purchases.
Hope these tips help!
