Chris and I have a great appreciation of the arts, from galleries to museums and even opera! We love discovering all the talent our city has to offer and last night we were in for a treat at the Opera Tastings. In case you don’t know what this is, it’s a 5 day concert series the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis puts together in the Spring to introduce opera to new audiences. Music from across the history of opera is paired with food and a drink which is carefully selected beforehand by brew masters, chefs, mixologist and sommeliers to complement the flavors of the music. Truly an experience like no other!

Nos encanta descubrir todo el talento que nuestra ciudad tiene que ofrecer y última noche que estuvimos en una de tratar en laOpera Tastings. En caso de que usted no sabe lo que es esto , es una serie de conciertos de 5 días el Teatro Opera de San Luis pone juntos en la primavera de introducir la ópera a nuevos públicos. Música de toda la historia de la ópera está emparejado con comida y una bebida que es cuidadosamente seleccionada de antemano por maestros cerveceros , los cocineros, sumilleres y mixologista para complementar los sabores de la música. Besides the fact that you get to enjoy the beautiful voices of the opera singers and the unique drink and food pairings, you’re also able to learn a little about the history of each song. For someone like us who don’t know much about the composers this really was a helpful component.

I had the opportunity to speak to the lovely opera singer, Stephanie Sanchez (above in colorful dress) who I learned is currently living in my hometown, Houston! We chatted about her journey to becoming an opera singer and I learned that she was destined to sing because she grew up watching her farther rehearse often because he was in a band. So of course you would think music would have been her major in college but she actually wanted to be a doctor and was only a minoring in music for her undergrad. It wasn’t until a professor introduced her to opera that she found her true love in life and then received a Masters in Opera to begin her musical career. I loved learning about her journey, goals and how it is to be a Latina in this business. She mentioned that as of now their aren’t many hispanics in this industry but it’s slowly growing and how she would love to bring to light more work done by other Spanish composers and singers.
Tuve la oportunidad de hablar con el cantante de ópera preciosa, Stephanie Sánchez (arriba en traje de colores ) que aprendí actualmente está viviendo en mi ciudad, Houston! Hablamos de su viaje para convertirse en un cantante de ópera y yo aprendimos que estaba destinada a cantar porque ella creció viendo a su más a menudo ensayar porque estaba en una banda.
