There are certain men’s styles and patterns that have been around since your grandpa was a kiddo. Sure, some decades should forever be banned from future trends (I see you 80’s), but many patterns and fabrics are timeless classics that will never go out of style.
The “Prince of Wales” (or “Glen Plaid”) pattern is such an example. The pattern is characterized by wool fabric with small and large checks. It is usually made of black/grey and white, or with more muted colours, particularly with two dark and two light stripes alternate with four dark and four light stripes which creates a crossing pattern of irregular checks. (1) Simply put, it is one of those patterns that you already recognize. Notable celebs who have draped these checks include Ronald Reagan, Prince Charles, Sean Connery (James Bond, anyone?), Tom Brady, Jay Z and more.
A few months ago I decided to invest in a two-piece Prince of Wales suit (Indochino link below pictures) and was very pleased with the result. What I really like about the suit is that it can easily be worn as separates to compliment other styles.
TIP: Be aware that certain glen plaid fabrics can be “loud” or “muted” depending on the brand.

As you can see, the Prince of Wales Pattern is a great way to add some flavor into your routine work suit or date night outfit. Many style icons have sported this pattern for years so you can rest comfortably knowing you aren’t taking any risks. In conclusion, Cheetah Talk deems the Prince of Wales as an essential pattern that every guy should incorporate into his wardrobe.
