We all know that great feeling of arriving to a new place when you’re on a trip and taking it all in because it’s tidy and welcoming. Now that we’re all beginning to tip toeing into traveling I thought I share my pre-check list I have for my home before I travel so I return to a tidy and stress free home. Because that feeling of arriving to a new place when on vacation should be the same feeling when you arrive home after your trip in my personal opinion.
- Laundry- This is one that I always make sure is done because I like to have all my clothes clean and ready to wear without stressing about doing laundry as soon as I get home.
- Clean Dishes– Now maybe this is the adult in me but I love a clean kitchen! And if there is one thing you leave done for your kitchen is making sure they are clean (and possibly put away) because no one wants to come home to dishes with food that now have mold on them.
- Waste No Food- A week before I travel I don’t buy anymore food and try my best to eat what I have left, see what I can pack with me (think snacks) and give what I don’t think I will eat that might go bad while I’m out to friends and family.
- Stop Mail- This is one that I learned from Chris, but did you know you can pause your mail while you’re out? I didn’t and now instead of having someone come and bring in your mail or run the issue of making it obvious you’re out of town you can just have USPS hold it until you return and they will deliver it all on your requested return date.
- Meal Ready for Return- Ever return from a trip and have nothing to eat at home? This one has been a game changer for me, I always make sure to have a meal in the freezer ready to go when I return home. I usually get a frozen pizza before we leave and have it ready to pop in the oven when I get home. Another option is to budget in purchasing a meal when you return into your travel budget if you want to avoid doing anything in the kitchen when you return.
- Take Out Trash- This one goes without saying but don’t forget to take out the trash from every room in your house before traveling because you don’t want to come back to trash sitting for a long period of time in your home. It sucks, trust me.
- Tidy Up- Lastly, I like to make sure that arriving to my home feels stress free so for this I recommend tidying up before you head out. Put items away, pick up anything that is on the floor and make your welcome home experience more relaxing after your trip by kicking your feet up.
I hope this check list helps as you plan your next trip and let me know if you have anything like this that you already do on your own before traveling.
As always, thank you for reading. Como siempre, gracias por leer.
