Today is election day in American and it’s time to go out and vote!
I’m sure many of you know the man I’m standing next to in this picture, Ken Bone. The overnight celebrity who became famous after the presidential debate all because of his red sweater. It’s officially been a month since his stardom so I thought I reach out for a quick sit down interview to talk about how life of a celebrity is like and about red sweater style!
For those of you thinking how did you get a hold of him? Well, he actually came into my job after he was contacted by one of the founders of the company to come pick out a watch, JORD Wood Watches to be exact. He actually came in on the Friday before Halloween and the office was dressed up and I just asked him if he would like to be on my blog and he said yes!
I actually found out he was sick when I arrived to the inter view because of all the traveling and meeting people he has been doing but he was sweet enough to still put time aside for a quick interview.
How has it been for the past month?
Not a single day has gone by since the debate that I haven’t done an interview with someone. Everything has been going nonstop for the past month.
Where have you traveled to in the past month since you became an overnight celebrity?
I traveled to Washington DC for a few hours to shot a commercial for IZOD, Las Vegas for the 3rd debate with Jimmy Kimmel, LA for the primer of Doctor Strange, and I just got back form Nashville.
Do you think if you had worn anything else besides the red sweater, would it had caught on?
Unfortunately, no. I have several suits that I love and the one I was going to wear that day is one of them but I don’t think they would have gotten as much attention as the sweater because it is a classic.
How many red sweaters do you own?
The original one is retired and will go up for auction and they have agreed to give $10,000 to my favorite charity. Aside from that I was given 3 from IZOD to rotate out for my interviews and meet ups so that I don’t have to wash the same one everyday.
How many times a week do you wear your red sweater?
I have worn it everyday for at least 10 minutes each for interviews.
Do you wear your red sweater outside of appearances?
Not at all, I would get made fun of if I wore “my celebrity outfit” anywhere out with people who know me especially my coworkers. When you work for a company as long as I do they become like family so they tease me.
Does anyone in your family or friend group treat you differently now?
The only person that did was my brother’s girlfriend who I have known for 6 months. She saw me after the debate and was starstruck and couldn’t even talk to me. It took her a while to muster up the courage to take a picture with me because she said I was a celebrity now. I was like I have known you for 6 months it’s just me, Ken.
What is the best way to wear a red sweater?
The best way to wear a red sweater is with a collar shirt under, sleeves rolled up but not too formal and if you want to wear a tie maybe something bold with a nice pattern. I think a red sweater is an essential and I learned how to dress form the best dresser I knew, my grandpa.
What do you think lies ahead for you?
I think after the election everything will die down and I will go back to my normal life but I will keep encouraging people to help each other in the community. I have thought about starting a YouTube channel but I have no idea what I would do yet or if anyone would want to watch it, but that’s an idea.
What is the message you have to share with America?
Go out there and vote! The day I went to the debate and had a question I had a question they had to listen to and answer. You have the same right to be heard and should take advantage of it. Also, be sure you are kind to one another and help your neighbors and community. Even if it is just picking up trash, mowing your elder’s lawn, just try to leave this world better than what you found it and we can make a difference!
After interviewing Ken I realized that yes he is now a internet celebrity but is a normal guy who is just trying to make the world a better place and we need more people like him. He also mentioned he liked how I pared my red sweater with my white skirt and black ballet flats. And that I looked much better than the first time he met me with my beard! lol
