What to Pack for San Miguel de Allende

  1. A water bottle- Be sure to bring your own water bottle and only fill it with purified water which you can buy a gallon at it at the local corner store. Also, when you go to restaurants be sure to ask for purified water or they will serve you tap water and because you are in a different country you do not know if the local water can affect you.
  2. Comfortable walking shoes- This town is made of all cobble stone which means this is no place to wear heels or shoes that are not comfortable to walk up and down steep streets in. I brought a pair of sandals, sneakers and a block heel to wear out when we had our “fancy” dinner.
  3. Sunscreen- You’ll be doing a lot of walking and that means you are going to need some sunscreen especially in the middle of the day when the temperature reaches its highest.
  4. Under the clothes money bag- When I travel to any country including my motherland I travel with a “under the clothes fanny pack”. In this I keep my big bills and a copy of my id or passport. This way I only carry what i need in my pockets and all of my big bills are under my clothes and when I need to get more money than what I have in my pocket I just go to the bathroom to get more. This way if pick pocketing were to ever happen I would never lose a big sum of money.
  5. Sleeping mask and ear plugs- As I wrote in my previous post (read her) when you travel it sometimes may take your body a while to become familiar with noises and if you are a light sleeper me then you may be up all night. Or in the case for us, we were kept up and woken up very early in the morning by fireworks and that was no fun.
  6. Sleeping medicine- This goes hand and hand with #5, just great to have on hand if you need it or are trying to recover from jet lag.
  7. Camera-You’ll fall in love with the city and run into fun corners of the city that are filled with such life that I’m sure you’ll want to snap a picture.
  8. Portable charger- If you plan to be out all day, you’ll want a portable charger to charge your phone, camera, etc.
  9. Backpack- You’ll need something to carry all of your things in, I like to say get a day backpack. Something that is light on its own, has lots of pockets and is not made of a material that will make your back sweat as much.
  10. A watch- Mexico is a place where you tend to lose track of time in the best way possible, so be sure to have a watch on to make sure you don’t miss a location about to close for the night.

I hope this helps answer any questions y’all had about what to take to San Miguel de Allende when traveling there for the first time!
