Howdy everyone!
This is a post I’ve wanted to do for a while, especially because I love highlighting the people in my life who are important to me. Cassi is one of those people who means the world to me and I could talk about for hours and I only say that because we lived with each other for 4 years! We met day one of college and have be inseparable ever since, until recently of course when I moved away. But as the best friends that we are, we talk at least once a week to catch up and have many plans in the future together.
I’ve seen this kind of thing done by YouTubers but since I don’t have one I thought my blog was fair game and it would work just as well. So if you want to know a little more about my partner in crime, please keep reading.
1. Where did you meet?
Cassi– Elena and I met freshman year of college at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. Both of us lived on the same dorm floor for the first year, and we both were Public Relations majors with many of the same classes. Basically it was “friendship at first sight.”
Elena– We met our freshman year of college, we lived on the same floor, took classes together, and in the same organizations, so we spent A LOT of time together.
2. What’s your favorite memory together?
Cassi-There are so many! But, one of my favorite memories is from our study abroad trip to Geneva, Switzerland. We went to Zermatt for a weekend where we had the option to ski or snowboard. Newbies to the snowy Alps and winter sports, we chose to snowboard. As you can imagine, this became quite an adventure. We had to learn to stop, get up, and ride the lift all by ourselves. When we’d fall (like every 5 minutes) we didn’t know that it was easier to fall on your butt then fall forward. However, we didn’t learn this until many falls later. So, people saw us crawling in the snow trying laughing our asses off trying to find a snow wall to pull ourselves back up on. After a few laps around, we finally started becoming snowboard pros.
Elena– My favorite memory or I guess you can say memories, has to be all the times we got ready together to go out. Cassi and I usually have a routine that never fails. It starts by putting on some tunes that get us in the mood for the night, then getting ready in our own rooms, trying to pick out outfits with each other’s opinion (most of the time we end borrowing one thing from each other), then I do her eyes and bronzer and she does my winged eye and teases my hair. Then we check each other to make sure everything is good to go and we are out!
3. Describe each other in one word.
Cassi– Chihuahua – enough said.
Elena– Sunshine
4. First impression
Cassi– I wouldn’t say that I was necessarily raised “sheltered,” but I grew up with very little cultural influence – this was a BIG reason why I chose to go to Webster.
When I first saw Elena, I immediately thought, “I’ve never had a Hispanic friend!” She was so friendly, had impeccable style, and I loved that she spoke Spanish. Almost 5 years later, I still can’t say a sentence in Spanish!
Elena– I remember the first time I saw Cassi, we were going around the room and introducing ourselves to everyone on the the floor. The first thing I thought was she was so pretty and I loved her style! Not gonna lie, I was a little intimidated by her at first because she was so pretty but I soon saw she was super friendly.
Similar to Cassi, I didn’t really have any white friends because I grew up in a hispanic community so I was pretty excited to have a best friend of a different race for once. Plus it’s fun being her token mexican friend!
5. Favorite qualities
Cassi– Elena is so personable. She can walk right up to a stranger, introduce herself, and relate to basically anyone.
She is also not afraid to be quirky and goofy. She always says, “What do I have to lose? My pride?”
Elena– Cassi is the hardest working person I know, ever since freshman year she has always had more than one job and is the true definition of a hustler. She also is very organized and takes on responsibility very well.
6. Something weird about them?
Cassi– I love, love, love animals. I have two little baby dachshunds that I call my “boys.” I consider myself a proud pet mom and would do absolutely anything for them. Elena grew up around outside animals like cows, dogs and cats. She believes an animal is just an animal and an animal isn’t really a part of the family. Although that’s her opinion, it is so weird!
Elena– Just like Cassi said I didn’t grow up with pets being apart of the family so it was very interesting seeing how much she loved and cared for her dog (her kids). So apart of my mentality of this came form my dad, he was raised that way because he lived in the country in Mexico and animals came and went (especially the ones they raised for food), so it was always best to not get attached. I also had never seen people take pictures with them on Christmas with the family. I still don’t understand it so well but I can see why she loves them.
7. What have you learned? (through this friendship or about each other)
Cassi– Two things I have learned from Elena: 1. You can never have too many friends. 2. If you’re not happy, find the strength to change your life.
Elena– I’ve learned that it’s ok to be open about your life and you need to learn to talk about things because if not then they build up and that can be worse.
8. Food you don’t understand they like
Cassi– I think its called “trash corn.” It’s a weird concoction of corn, mayonnaise, cheese, and a whole bunch of spices. Ewe!
Elena– I’m sure something but I can’t think of it at the moment.
9. Trips planned together
Cassi– We have so many trips planned; I don’t even know where to start! We are going to Vegas in January 2015 for a bachelorette party. We’ve always wanted to do the Route 66 road trip. Also, once we both have great jobs, we hope to go to Italy one day.
Elena– Lets just say that I plan to travel with Cassi for the rest of my life, so I can see a trip happening almost every year if possible. But as of right now we have a road trip on Route 66, Mexico, a cruise and of course Europe once we have a little more extra money.
10. Their favorite things in life
Cassi– Hmm, I’d say: her family, close friends, her faith, coffee, a red lipstick, cowboy boots, country music, her boyfriend, maybe a cheetah scarf, a big necklace, her camera, and ME!
Elena– Her dogs, her family, her job, planning in order to advance in her career, the St. Louis Blues, wine, fall, friends, perfectly teased hair, Tommy Hilfiger, anything preppy, and this little mexican right here!
11. Their go to look or outfit
Cassi– It depends on the season for Elena. But, I’d say her go to outfit year-round is all black. Typically you’ll see Elena in a black shirt with black pants or shorts and a fun printed scarf or bright necklace.
Elena– She always has her hair teased so well (I swear she belongs in the south), winged eyeliner, her purse, she wears a lot of solids and usually pairs it with a statement scarf, piece of jewelry, or shoes. I would say that she mainly wears bright colors and dresses preppy, which fits her personality perfectly!
12. What is something they have you love?
Cassi- She has this crystal cluster necklace from PurplePeridot that I haven’t bought yet…for whatever reason. She knows if she comes to visit, she must pack it!
Elena– I really like her jewelry selection but I love her glittery earring studs the most!
13. What are you looking forward to in the future together?
Cassi– Probably traveling together. We can’t wait to visit and see new places. We most likely will always live in different states, but distance has never stopped our friendship. In the future, Elena knows that I want a big white brick house in the South just a few hours from the ocean. Whereas Elena, I don’t quite know where she will end up living. But, what I do know is that we will each have plane tickets ready to go wherever life takes us.
Elena– Traveling together, calling her when anything major in my life happens, visiting each other, adapting to adulthood, being in each other’s wedding, raising our kids together, and spending a lifetime together even if it means we will be in different states. I like to think that after 4 years of living together we are pretty much married and at the end of the day I can’t wait to tell my grandkids about a friendship that I have been able to keep since I was 18. By then I’m sure we will try to retire close to each other and it will be like college all over again!
14. What song do you hear that reminds you of them?
Cassi– Either “Started From The Bottom” or “Fancy” by Drake. This girl loves her Drake.
Elena– “Fancy” by Iggy, she is totally in love with her! Any Eminem song and “Find out Who Your Friends Are” by Tracy Lawrence. As friends come and go I have found that Cassi has always included me in her plans and will do anything for me, she’s the true definition of a best friend.
We tried to do a serious picture but it obviously doesn’t work out for us, we do silly best!
Me: Floral romper (similar)|Yellow necklace via The Limited (similar)| Wedges via Target (similar)
Cassi: Romper via Ross (similar)|Crystal Cluster via Purple Peridot (her favorite thing of mine)|Wedges (similar)
